Randhawa end at creditable tied 17th, Kapur tied 43rd at Wales Open
Newport, Wales, June 4 (UNI) A late dash of four birdies in his last five holes helped Jyoti Randhawa finish inside the top-20 after returning a superb four-under 65 final round card at the Celtic Manor Wales Open here.
Randhawa finished a creditable tied 17th, taking his four-day aggregate to eight-under 268.
Tied 29th overnight, Randhawa began on a positive note by hitting a birdie on the second hole but fumbled a bit as he dropped two shots in the next three holes. He picked up a stroke on the ninth hole to turn at level-par.
His backward journey was fairly impressive and he gained one more stroke on the par-three 14th. Thereafter, there was not stopping Randhawa as he went on to sink three birdies in his last three holes at the Celtic Manor Resort.
Although compatriot Shiv Kapur produced his best show of the week with a three-under 66, he finished tied 43rd with a total of two-under 274.
Kapur had a blemish-free front nine to go with a birdie on the fifth hole against four more birdies and a lone bogey on the back nine.
Atop the charts, overnight leader Bradley Dredge could not exploit good scoring conditions, with third-placed South African Richard Sterne surging ahead with a sizzling four-under 65 to win the Celtic Manor Wales Open.
It was a case of so near yet so far for local hope Dredge as he ended just a stroke behind eventual leader Sterne. Dredge aggregated 12-under 264 to Sterne's 13-under 263.
