Randhawa all set for impressive finish at Wales Open
Newport, Wales, June 3 (UNI) Jyoti Randhawa birdied four of his last five holes to return a superb four-under 65 final round card to assure himself of a strong finish at the Celtic Manor Wales Open here today.
With this effort, Randhawa took his four-day aggregate to eight-under 268 and jump to tied 15th position when the news last came in.
Compatriot Shiv Kapur also produced his best show of the week and carded three-under 66 for a tentative tied 43rd position with an total of two-under 274.
However it was another Asian, Mardan Mamat of Singapore, who exploited good scoring conditions at the par-69 Celtic Manor Resort to the hilt by returning a brilliant seven-under 62 and jump into the lead with 12-under 264.
Tied 29th overnight, Randhawa began on a positive note by hitting a birdie on the second hole but fumbled a bit as he dropped two shots in the next three holes. He picked up a stroke on the ninth hole to turn at level-par.
His backward journey was fairly impressive and he gained one more stroke on the par-three 14th. Thereafter, there was not stopping Randhawa as he went on to sink three birdies in his last three holes.
Earlier yesterday, Randhawa had recovered from a poor start to return a one-under 68 card and move up to the tied 29th position.
