Rameswari's high five as Manipur dominate cycling event
Guwahati, Feb 13 (UNI) It was a one-woman show in cycling as Rameswari Devi of Manipur swept away five Gold medals at the 33rd National Games here.
Thanks to Rameswari's feat, Manipur's 12-member cycling team -- five men and seven women -- came out on top winning five of the 13 cycling Gold medals besides two Silver medals.
As per the medals tally of the cycling event, concluded today, Punjab took the second position with four Gold, four Silver and three Bronze and Kerala came third with two Gold, one Silver and three Bronze.
Hosts Asom and Services followed the list with one Gold, four Silver and four Bronze and one Gold, one Silver and two Bronze respectively while Andhra Pradesh got one Silver and Rajasthan one Bronze.
25-year-old Rameswari led from the front as she helped the women team in winning three team events -- 1500 m team time trial, Olympic team sprint and 3000 M team pursuit and won two individual events of these categories.
While the women cyclists excelled with five gold and one silver in 3000 M individual pursuit, their male counterparts could manage to secure only one Silver in sprint men final by Indrakumar.
''We are happy that our team could perform well. Although, the women have got more success, the men also competed well,'' Rameswari said.
