Qualifiers Shilpa and Hegde keep winning spree
Chandigarh, June 5 (UNI) West Bengal's Ridhi Hegde and local player Shilpa Naruka as they continued their winning streak in the AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament at the Sector 10 CLTA Tennis Stadium here today.
Playing with determination, Ridhi got the better of Arzoo Malik of Delhi winning 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 in the girls Under-14 singles.
Ridhi will now face third seed Anushka Bhargava of Andhra Pradesh in tomorrow's quarter-final match .
Anushka had an easy round against Ankita Bhatia of Haryana whom she beat 6-3, 6-1.
Local qualifier Shilpa continued with her excellent form as she beat Abhilasha Ahuja of Haryana in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 in the girls Under-16 singles second round match at the Centre Court.
A confident Shilpa will now cross swords with top seeded Garima Vatwani of Delhi in quarter-final round.
Hiting her strokes with power and direction, Garima dropped just one game in each set as the Delhi player won with ease 6-1, 6-1.
Second seeded Shweta C Rana, after losing her the first set 1-6, reorganised her game to outplay Mehak 6-4, 6-4 in the next two sets to advance to the next round.
Seeded players had a smooth sailing in the boys Under-14 singles second round matches. Top seed Rohit Bisht (Delhi), second seed Ronit Bisht (Delhi), third seed Surya Pawan (Andhra Pradesh), fourth seed Digvijay Singh Mehta (HP), fifth seed K Pradeep Reddy (AP), sixth seed Siddharth Rawat (Delhi) and seventh seed Vinod Gowda advanced to the next round.
Surya Pawan and Akshat Joshi of Chandigarh struggled to move into quarter-finals in the boys Under-16 singles second round matches. Surya Pawan was extended to three sets by unseeded Adit Jan of Delhi 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to set up a quarter-final clash with top seed Rohit Bisht who beat Naveen Shanker in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
Local lad Akshat faced a tough challenge before prevailing over plucky Shikhar Kapur of Delhi 7-6 (9-7), 7-5.
The quarter-final line-up is: Shweta C Rana vs Kritika Paul (Delhi); Vaniya Dangwal (Delhi) vs Prathana Tombera (Mah); Vaidehi Bhagwat (Mah) vs Manya Nagpal (Delhi).
