Punjab Police swamp Bhopal XI; BSF, SC Railway, Army Green also win

Mumbai, Apr 15 (UNI) Draag flicker Jugraj Singh with a three goal burst, helped Punjab Police rout Bhopal XI 7-1 in a pool H quaterfinal league match played at the Mahindra stadium here today.

In the other matches BSF Jalandhar derailed the Western Railway outfit 2-0 in a pool J match, while South Central Railway beat UP XI 3-1 in a pool I match and Army Green notched up their first win beating Indian Navy 3-1 in a pool G match.

Punjab Police began the rout of Bhopal XI with Jugraj Singh scoring through a penalty corner in the eighth minute. Punjab Police then increased the tally in the 30th minute Amit Singh to go up 2-0 at half time.

After the breather the Punjab Police boys were all over the Bhopal XI defence as they scored ion the 43rd, 44th, 55th, 58th and 60th minute to go up 7-0. The goal scorers were Jugraj Singh three, Satwinder Singh two and Amit Singh and Deepak Sharma one each.

Bhopal XI got a consolation goal five minutes from time when Mohd.

Taz converted a field goal.

BSF Jalandhar in their match against the local Western Railway team stamped down their authority on the game scoring two quick goals in the sixth and tenth minutes both coming via penalty corners with the scorers being Mandeep Singh (sr.) and Ranjit Singh to shut Western Railway out of the match.

South Central Railway however chugged along without any problems as they built up a 2-0 lead by the 38th minute against UP XI with Mayur Subbaiah and Bipin Thimmaiah being the scorers. UP XI pulled one back in the 46th minute through Pramod Kumar, but six minutes later Amit Srivas scored for the Railwaymen to make the issue safe for them winning 3-1 in the end.

Army Green and Indian Navy played out a listless first half with both teams preferring to control the midfield and no good attack emating from them.

However, after change of ends Army Green pumped in three goals through Cyprian Aind, Bunty Singh and Karthikeyan to take control over the match. Ajay Kumar of Indian Navy pulled one back in the dying moments of the game, but it was not enough as Army Green won 3-1.
