Punjab Mandi Board to utilise grain markets' sheds for sports
Moga, Aug 6 (UNI) Punjab Mandi Board will utilise the sheds of its 147 grain markets and over 1400 sub-yards in the state for holding sports competitions.
While disclosing this here last evening, Punjab Mandi Board Chairman Ajmer Singh Lakowal said that huge infrastructure of these sheds were used only during the harvesting of the wheat and paddy crops and for the remaining nine months period this infrastructure remained unutilised, so the Board has decided to utilise this infrastructure worth crores of rupees for promoting sports, particularly traditional sports.
Mr Lakowal said the Board of Directors of Punjab Mandi Board have also decided to have its own sports wing. He said the decision of seperate sports wing had already been sent to state government for its approval and he hoped to get its clearance at the earliest.
The Board in this respect had also spoken to international wrestling champion Kartar Singh and well known basketball player Sajjan Singh, the Chairman said.
