Punjab Asian medalists to get cash prizes

Chandigarh, Oct 3 (UNI) Medal winning athletes Doha of Asian Games from Punjab Qatar would be richer by Rs 45 lakh as the state government would soon distribute the cash awards to them.

Disclosing this here today, Sports and Youth Services Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike said that in the Asian Games, 13 players from Punjab won medals in different events.

Three players won gold medals, seven silver and three won bronze medals. To motivate the players, the Punjab government has decided to give a cash prize of Rs 7 lakh to those who had won gold medals, Rs five lakh to the silver medalists and Rs three lakh to the bronze medal winners.

The Punjab government has already released this amount and would soon organize a function to distribute the prizes, Mr Ranike announced.
