Pune, Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban breeze into the last four

Pune, Aug 23 (UNI) Hosts Pune along with Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban had a smooth sailing and made into the last four stage today in the junior girls (under -19) section in the 66th Maharashtra Junior Inter-District and open State badminton championship which 2007 got underway at the WIE complex here.

Pune made the short work of Satara District posting a comfortable 2-0 win. Mudra Dhainje thrashed Kashmira Lonkar in straight games 21-5,21-1. While the hosts double combination of Pradnya Bondre and Shweta Kelkar also did not have to exert much before crushing the rival pair Kashmira Lonkar and Sampada Bhoite 21-4,21-3 and completed the route.

Mumbai City District outplayed Nasik District 2-0. Vinita Bhate put her side ahaed brishing aside Indraja Salunkhe 21-5, 21-8. Their doubles pair of Vinita Ghate and Gauri Ghate sweptaside the rival combination of Indraja Salunkhe andPuruva Bora 21-8,21-7 and assured a berth in the semi -final.

Mumbai Suburban District also posted an identical 2-0 verdict over Jalgaon District.Kamdabari Cheda drubbed Shruti Kabara 21-5,21-0 to put her side 1-0 up and their doubles combination of Chheda and Bhagirathi Sharma swepta side Kabara and Vasudha Patil 21-5,21-2 and completed the route.

In the corresponding junior boys team championship Nagpur District lads toppled the aspirations of Greater Mumbai City District posting a merited 2-0 win. Jatin Verma gave his side a fine start getting the better of Feroz Mulani 21-17,21-14. Verma and Sarang Lakhanee made the short work of Mulani and partner Sanmay Shah in straight games 21-12,21-16. and completed the sweep.

The winners now joins hosts Pune, Mumbai Suburban District and Thane in the semi-finals. Pune out played Ahmednagar 2-0 whileMumbai Suburban district defeated Kolhapur 2-1 and Thane District put it across Nasik Dsirtict 2-1.

Pune beat Ahmednagar 2-0.Nihar Tilekar beat Bhavin Chautani 21-10,21-6. Varun Gujar and Sidhant Ghorpade beat ShubankarKhandelwal and Abhishek Kulkarni 21-7,21-9.

Nagpur District beat Greater Mumbai City District 2-0 Jatin Verma beat Feroz Mulani 21-17, 21-14, Verma and Sarang Lakhani beat Mulani and Saumay Shah 21-12, 21-16 Mumbai Suburban District beat Kolhapur District 2-1 Purav Sumyamurthylost to Aniruddha Bhandari 21-11, 17-21,15-21, Parin Chopda and Amit Kshatriya beat Bhandari and Nilabh 21-8,21-12, and Amit Kshatriya beat Gautam Baghe 21-9,21-10.
