Promising talent Khushlani to race in Formula BMW Asia series

New Delhi, May 2 (UNI) Promising Indian Motorsport talent Akhil Khushlani scaled a new high in his young career as he has been selected to race in the Formula BMW Asia Series 2007 circuit.

Khushlani was selected along with four others to train and race in the circuit in a talent hunt scholarship race in March in Bahrain F1 track where the 17-year-old Indian had clocked lap timing of 1:08:09.

The 22-round circuit starts on Friday at Sepang in Malaysia (May 4-6) and ends in November 2-4 in Zhuhai in China with in between races in Sepang (June 23-24), Sentul in Indonesia (July 20-22), Chengdu in China (September 7-9) and F1 track in Shanghai (October 5-7).

A confident Khushlani told UNI from Hyderabad that he is expecting top two or three finish in the circuit starting at Sepang on Friday.

''In Bahrain, I competed with 28 drivers from all over the world including from Pakistan, South Africa and Japan. I am looking forward to be among top two or three in Formula BMW Asia Series. I want to compete in British Formula 3 as soon as possible and then go up the ladder to Formula 1,'' said Khushlani who is leaving the country for Malaysia tonight.

JK Tyre-sponsored Khushlani will be among 18 or 20 drivers in the circuit.

''It is a 20-driver circuit and 18 have confirmed participation,'' he said.

Khushlani has been karting for seven years in Indian and international circuits and he finished fifth at the World Karting Championships in 2005 in Malaysia. He was introduced to Formula Cars in Formula Rolon circuit in Combatoire last year as a member of Team NK Racing before paricipating in the 2007 Formula BMW talent hunt programme in Bahrain.
