Pondy youth to represent India in world championship

Puducherry, Aug 17 (UNI) K Masilamani of Puducherry who bagged the gold medal in the recently concluded All India Power Lifting Championships at Kollam in Kerala has been selected to represent India in the World Power Lifting Championship in Austria scheduled to be held from October 14 to October 20.

Speaking to newspersons here today, Masilamani (25) said he lifted 73.5 kg in the 75 kg category to bag the gold.

Hailing from a poor fishermen family here, Masilamani urged the territorial administration to extend financial support for his travel besides providing him a job.

He had also won a bronze in Asian Power Lifting Championships in Taiwan. The youth said he would strive to bag gold in the world championship.

UNI
