Performance pays in Pak;Inzy unlikely to be contracted
Lahore, June 18 (UNI) Perform or famish was the veiled message the PCB sent out to the cricketers as it decided to reward performance rather than seniority in its new central contracts for players.
The ad-hoc committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) which met in Bhurban yesterday also hinted at giving central contracts to only those players who were available for both Tests and one-dayers, 'The News' reported.
The move could effectively put paid to Inzamam-ul Haq's hopes of prolonging his career in the longer version of the game as he had announced his retirement from the ODIs after the World Cup.
According to the new pay formula, each player would receive the same match fee but there would be three slabs in the monthly retainers.
The three categories would be decided on the basis of performance, seniority, fitness and discipline.
According to the formula, a player's performance in the last 12 months would carry 40 points while 20 points each would be decided on the basis of his seniority, fitness and disciplinary record.
Category A players would get an annual salary of Rs 30 lakh, Category B players will get Rs 24 lakh while Category C players will get Rs 18 lakh.
The board has asked the national selectors to prepare a list of 30 players by next week for the central contracts out of which 20 would get the contracts.
The new contracts will come into effect from July 1.
