Payal Nag Receives Government Support After World Para Archery Series Win

Odisha para archer Payal Nag received a formal felicitation from the Sports & Youth Services Department, Government of Odisha, after winning two Gold Medals at the World Para Archery Series 2026 in Bangkok, a performance that also confirmed qualification for the forthcoming Para Asian Games.

Recognising this international success, the department presented Payal a special cash award of ₹5,46666 lakh for the double Gold. An additional ₹3,23100 lakh was sanctioned for purchasing advanced sports equipment, aimed at strengthening training and competition readiness in the coming months.

At the Bangkok meet, Payal topped the field in para archery, collecting two Gold Medals across events. These victories at the World Para Archery Series 2026 confirmed entry into the upcoming Para Asian Games, adding another major event to Payal’s international competition calendar.

The felicitation ceremony featured Hon'ble Minister Sports & Youth Services Sri Suryabansi Suraj, Hon'ble MLA, Kantabanji, Shri Laxman Bag, and senior officials from the Sports & Youth Services Department (DSYS). The dignitaries congratulated Payal and wished continued success at the Para Asian Games and future global appearances.

Hon'ble Minister Sports & Youth Services Shri Suryabanshi Suraj stated, "Payal Nag's success on the international stage is a proud moment for Odisha and the nation. Her determination, discipline, and achievements are truly inspiring and reflect the growing strength of para sports in Odisha." The minister underlined Odisha’s wider backing for para athletes.

Sharing feelings after returning home, Payal said, "I am very happy to be back in Odisha and among my people after this memorable achievement. The encouragement and support I have received from the Government of Odisha, Hon'ble Sports Minister, and Hon'ble MLA Kantabanji Shri Laxman Bag mean a lot to me and motivate me to continue working harder for the country. I sincerely thank everyone for recognising and supporting my journey." The Government of Odisha reiterated that support through infrastructure, financial aid, and high-performance systems will continue for athletes aiming for top-level results.
