Pawar, Deshmukh hold meeting to discuss arrangements for WC

Mumbai, Dec 23 (UNI) The President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Sharad Pawar today held deliberations with Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh at the Sahayadri Guest House here to discuss ways and means for the smooth conduct of the 2011 cricket World Cup final at the Wankhede stadium.

Taking into account the magnitude of the event and the Wankhede stadium not having the required space to conduct the event, the discussions centered around on how to increase the size of the stadium by taking over the premises of the Bombay Hockey Association and the University Pavilion, an official release said.

The rebuilding of the Wankhede stadium into a modern state-of-the-art stadium was also discussed at the meeting.

Deshmukh assured full support from the Government to make the event a memorable one.

The meeting was also attended by PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, Higher and Technical Education Minister Dilip Walse Patil, Labour Minister Ganesh Naik, Chief Secretary Johnny Joseph and other high ranking officials, the release added.
