Patakadil drubs began SAIL Academy, CR derails South East CR
Pune, Feb 24 (UNI) Little known Patakadil Talim Mandal, Kolhapur, put paid the aspirations of Mohun Bagan SAIL Football Academy (West Bengal) 3-1 and stormed into the last four stage of the Abhijit Kadam Memorial All India Invitation Soccer Tournament underway here.
Also making the grade were Central Railway Mumbai who outplayed their counterparts South East Central Railway Nagpur 5-0 in a one sided encounter.
SAIL Academy disappointed the crowd by their lacklustre display.
In contrast, the Kolhapur outfit enthralled with their speed and skill. Combining well, their frontliners went into the attack right from the start. They did not have to wait long as Marcos Mascerenhas, latching on to a well-measured pass from Ranvir Methe, found the mark with a powerful essay in the second minute of play.
Keeping the pressure, they increased the lead in the 38th minute through Mathew Ogan who made no mistake after Mascarenhas made the opening to lead 2-0.
SAIL Academy youngsters, however, came into their own and reduced the margin via Surjit Das who was put in possession by Shankar Oran after eluding a host of defenders to score from close range in the 70th minute.
Mascarenhas, however, sealed the Kolkata outfit's fate by scoring in the 79th minute following a solo run down the middle. Earlier, Shankar Oran missed a sitter in the 63rd minute with the rival custodian at his mercy but shot wide off the mark.
In the other match, the railwaymen from Mumbai were ahead of their counterparts from Nagpur in every department of the game. They, however, took some time to settle down before getting their acts together. They were given the lead by Aziz Querishi in the 32nd minute who scored from a rival defence lapse.
Then it was Socorro Velho who was all over the rival citadel scoring four goals but missed the coveted hat-trick. Velho found the mark in the 39th minute capitalising on the pass from Soman K S.
He went on to add two more goal in the 74th and 75th minutes from a solo effort.
In between, Kasif Tamal contributed in the 51st minute. The Nagpur railwaymen were not only found wanting in ideas but hardly did anything of note.
