Paris 2024: Legendary PT Usha Says Indian Athletes Well Being Priority Over Medals
The 2024 Paris Olympics are just around the corner, and India is ready to make its mark. Led by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and supported by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and various sports associations, the country has invested heavily in ensuring a smooth and successful campaign for its athletes.
PT Usha, the IOA president, highlights the significant shift in approach: prioritizing athlete well-being. "From IOA side, we have done very well this time. We have given priority for players, whatever they want," Usha told myKhel. Paris 2024 Special Page

Focus on Athlete Well-being
This translates into a dedicated sports science team accompanying athletes, encompassing mental wellness therapists, sleep experts, recovery specialists, nutritionists, and physiologists.
Usha explains, "Last minute we wanted our athletes to participate with a very peaceful mind so that they can do their best there."
A Collaborative Effort
Usha acknowledges the collaborative effort behind the athlete's preparation. "The team has prepared very well and for that all the facilities done by the Government of India and Sports Authority of India also and associations did well for preparing them for the Olympics," she states. This collaboration ensures athletes have access to top-notch training facilities, equipment, and coaching.
Improved Infrastructure and Resources
The Government of India and SAI have played a vital role in providing the infrastructure and resources needed for athlete development. This includes building and upgrading training facilities, providing access to cutting-edge equipment, and offering financial support to athletes during their training.
The inclusion of a comprehensive sports science team is a noteworthy development. Experts in mental wellness, sleep therapy, recovery, nutrition, and physiology will contribute significantly to an athlete's performance. This holistic approach addresses not just physical training but also the mental and emotional aspects of competition.
Setting the Stage for Success
These focused efforts by the IOA, SAI, sports associations, and the government create a strong foundation for Indian athletes to excel at the Paris Olympics. With their dedication, combined with the support system in place, India's athletes have the potential to achieve their personal bests and bring home a significant number of medals. "So, I hope the preparation went well and our athletes will do well in the Olympics," Usha concluded.
While the preparations appear well on track, there can always be unforeseen challenges. Injuries, unexpected setbacks, and even visa issues, as seen with wrestler Antim Panghal's support staff, can disrupt plans.
Nevertheless, the commitment and collaborative effort demonstrated so far bode well for India's Olympic campaign. The nation will be cheering for its athletes as they strive for glory on the world's biggest sporting stage.
