Pankaj Advani crashes out of Asian Champiopnship

New Delhi, May 30 (UNI) Indian challenge at the Asian Billiards Championship at Doha ended following the losses of Pankaj Advani and Rupesh Shah in the quarter-finals.

Comeback man Peter Gilchrist of England did short work of both the Indians. He first trounced Shah to top the group and in the quarter-finals dashed the hopes of favourite Advani 4-3.

Advani was down 0-3 in the best of seven frame quarter-final match. However, he rallied brilliantly to take the issue to the decider before committing a cardinal mistake for Gilchrist to take advantage and clinch the match.

Earlier, Advani had suffered a shock 1-3 defeat at the hands of Aung Htay in the last group league match. Htay then made it to the semi-finals after inflicting a 4-1 defeat on Shah.

Gilchrist meets the winner of Nguyen T Long Vs Aung Sun Oo tie while Htay will clash with T Sujaritthurakarn in the semi-finals, according to information received here today.
