Pakistan fined for maintaining slow over-rate against Lanka

Colombo, Feb 27 (PTI) Pakistan were fined for maintaininga slow over-rate during their 11-run win against Sri Lanka inthe cricket World Cup here.

ICC Elite Panel Match Referee Chris Broad imposed thefines after Shahid Afridi''s side were ruled to be one overshort of target at the end of the match yesterday when timeallowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with ICC Code of Conduct regulationsgoverning minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 percent of their match fees for every over their side fails tobowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double thatamount.

As such, Afridi was fined 20 per cent of his match feewhile his players received 10 per cent fines, an ICC releasesaid.

The offence is contrary to Article 2.5.1 of the codewhich relates to minor over-rate offences. The penalty wasaccepted by Pakistan without contest so there was no need fora hearing.
