Overwhelming response for laser regatta

Hyderabad, Aug 4 (UNI) Over 80 sailors have confirmed participation in the Laser National Sailing Championships to be held at the picturesque Hussainsagar lake here from August 6 to 10.

Speaking to the media here, Major General MP Singh, Vice-president (Executive), LCAI, said ''there is a 25 per cent increase in the total number of entries. There are more than 31 entries in Laser Standard, over 40 in the Laser Radial and eight in Laser 4.7 class.

More are expected by tomorrow evening''.

Participants, including twice Asian Games (2002, 2006) bronze medallist Rajesh Choudhary, defending champion NS Johal, former nationals DP Selvam, P Madhu and BK Rout, would vie for the top honours.

Union Women and Child Welfare Minister Renuka Chowdary would be the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony tomorrow.
