Orissa Steelers win the phase one final match
Chennai, Feb 4 (UNI) Orissa Steelers made the best of defensive approach by Maratha Warriors to win the finals match 2-0 in the concluding match of the first phase of ESPN-BSNL Premier Hockey League, here today.
Daman Deep Singh gave Orissa the lead in the 33rd minute deflecting a pass from Prabodh Tirkey. He scored again in the 56th minute of a three pronged move on the left flank, deflecting the ball again passed the Maratha goal keeper Adrian S'Souza. He got the ball from Ekka, who was out in possession by Zakir.
Orissa Steelers topped the table ahead of Sher-A-Jalandar with one victory more than the latter. Both had finished the first phase with 14 points each.
Maratha Warriors ended their engagements with seven points from six matches, winning three.
