NSG commandos to be deployed at World Cup venues
New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) Highly-trained commandos of the National Security Guard (NSG) will be deployed at all the match venues during the ICC Cricket World Cup in the Caribbeans from March 11 to April 28.
Home Ministry sources today confirmed that a 16-member team of the NSG Bomb Disposal Squad would leave here on Monday.
"The NSG, considered as the best counter-terrorist unit in Asia, will help the security system there," the sources said, adding that the commandos would be armed with sophisticated equipment.
The sources said organisers of the World Cup had sent a communication to the Indian government requesting it to help them in security matters during the matches.
Accordingly, the government had sent a two-member team to Port of Spain during February 24-March 1 to discuss the issue with the organisers.
The sources said the decision to send the NSG team was taken on the basis of the report of the two-member team.
There were reports that a similar anti-terrorist team had been invited from France.
