No news is not a good news for Indian media

Trelawny (Jamaica), Mar 9 (UNI) The maxim-no news is a good news- is not good for the huge Indian media contingent which is following the national squad in the Cricket World Cup here.

So far there has been no controversy in the Indian camp and hence no juicy story and bereft of any story, most of the mediapersons are their wits end to generate stories for back home audience and readers.

That means if there is no story then create one and with India's opening match still eight days away, some story has to be there.

In this world cup, media coverage of the doings of Team India, is more intense than ever before. Thus, there are already stories about team injuries. Two men who were reported to be on the injured list are playing the final warm-up game against the hosts at the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium here today, while two others, about whom there were no injury hints at all, are sitting out of the game.

What must be remembered is the fact that any international athlete always carries a niggle or two. The sheer volume of sport, the demands of administrators, sponsors and the TV are so intense that recovery time is often at a premium. And in a tournament as long as this one is - six weeks at the very least - these niggles will come and go.

How a team copes with these issues is what will be told at the business end of CWC 2007. As things stand on Friday - with the top eight teams in action across the Caribbean (India-West Indies, Pakistan-South Africa, England-Australia and New Zealand-Sri Lanka) - it is almost time for the real action to begin.
