Newsmakers 2017: Weightlifting: Mirabai Chanu

Though not a household name a few months back, Mirabai Chanu has made her mark after lifting golf at the Weightlifting World Championship.

Mirabai's victory came as a breath of fresh air as the Indian ended the country's 22-year long wait for a gold at the world championships.

Moreover Mirabai snatched a new world record of 194kg-85kng snatch and 109kg clean-and-jerk, to become only the second Indian weightlifter after Karnam Malleswari to achieve this milestone in USA.
