New Zealand defeated Army 4-3.5
Jaipur, Mar 20 (UNI) Sam Hopkinson slammed two goals to enable New Zealand whip Army by 4-3.5 goals in the opening match of the Golden Jubilee International Polo Tournament at the Rajasthan Polo ground here today.
Apart from Hopkinson, Ross George and Ross Ainsley shared remaining two goals for the visiting team. Major Ravi Rathore made two goal and Lieutenant Colonel Tarun Sirohi contributed one for Army which had half goal advantage prior the match started.
Army took half goal lead over the visiting team in the third chukker but in the final chukker Sam Hopkinson made a brilliant goal after missing the control over the ball by Tarun Sirohi. Thereafter Tarun and Samir Chodhary missed the chance in the dying moment of the match.
Tomorrow Loro Piana Italy will take on hosts Rajasthan Polo Club in the second match. Governor of Rajasthan Smt Pratiba Patil gave away the prizes to the winners and losers.
