Nayanar Memorial tournament to begin on Apr 8

Kannur, Kerala, Apr 5 (UNI) FC Nania, Ghana will meet State Bank of Travancore (SBT), Kerala on April eight in the inaugural match of the Nayanar Memorial Gold Cup tournament at Kannur Municipal Jawahar flood-lit stadium.

Tournament committee convenor M V Jayarajan told a news meet that four foreign teams from Ghana, Pakistan XI, Dinamo FC, Nigeria, Iran XI and four national teams of Army XI-Delhi, Vasco Goa, SBT-Kerala, Viva-Kerala, will play on league basis. Quarter finals would be held from April eight and the final on April 24.

After 12 years, Kannur is hosting the international level football tournament.

The winning team would receive 150 sovereigns of gold cup triplica designed by sculpture Kanai Kunhiraman. The first three consecutive winning teams received the real cup.

The fixtures were released by C Musthafa, former Indian goal keeper.

All matches would be played at 1830 hrs and tickets were issued through the SBT and ground counters.
