National weightlifting trials for women held

Patiala, Aug 1 (UNI) The national weightlifting trials for women in seven weight categories were held here at the NIS to select the Indian squad for World Weightlifting Championship to be held in Changmai, Thailand, from September 15 to 24.

The trials, not impressively held, failed to sparkle as no lifter could churn out any outstanding performance. The competition in Changmai will provide the Indian lifters an opportunity to qualify for next year's Beijing Olympics.

However, the team could not be announced even after 2-hour selection committee meeting yesterday.
