National Archery from tomorrow

Vijayawada, Jan 24 (UNI) The five-day 27th Cherukuri Volga Memorial National Archery championship for seniors will be held here from tomorrow.

Addressing a press conference, Archery Association of India (AAI) secretary-general Anil Kamineni said 25 states and nine departmental teams across the country comprising more than 500 archers would be participating in the championship.

He said the selection process of Indian Archery team to participate in the world championship to be held in Germany in July and the Beijing Olympics in 2008 would begin from this tournament.

He said eight teams for Archery competition in the coming National games at Guwahati in Asom from February 9, would also be selected during the championship.

He said the competitions would be held in Indian Round, FITA, compound and recurve segments for both men and women.

Mr Kamineni also announced that India will host the junior and sub-junior World Archery Championships in Delhi in October 2008.
