Naresh-Parth upset Saurav-Harinder for doubles title
Chennai, July 26 (UNI) National singles champion Saurav Ghosal's hopes of completing a treble were dashed as he and partner Harinder Pal Singh were upset by Naresh Kumar and Parth Sharma who annexed the crown with a hard fought 10-11(0-2),6-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-9 win in the final of the National doubles squash championships here today.
Saurav and Harinder committed too many unforced errors and played loose shots. While Naresh and Parth carried home the winner's purse of Rs 30,000, the runners up, the third and fourth plac winners got Rs 16,500, Rs 9000 and Rs 60000, in that order.
However, Saurav scored a double, spearheading Tamil Nadu 'A' to trounce Tamil Nadu 'B' in the final, winning the first two matches in the best of three format and lifted the Inter- State team title.
Saurav defeated Ayayappan Parthiban of TN 'B' 9-1, 9-1, 9-2 while Sharma beat Ravi Dixit 9-7, 9-4, 9-5 in a stiff contest.
