Mumbai, Karnataka enter semis of Vinoo Mankad tourney
Chennai, Jan 17 (UNI) Mumbai and Karnataka scored facile wins to enter the semifinals of the under-19 knock out cricket tournament for the Vinoo Mankad trophy here today.
While Mumbai defeated Hyderabad by 81 runs, Karnataka was equally impressive in its 91-run win over Punjab to make the grade.
In the semifinals on January 19, Mumbai will meet Delhi, while Karnataka would take on Maharashtra.
Put into bat, Mumbai rattled up 259 in 50 overs, with Anup Revankar top scoring with a stroke-filled 64 of 51 balls, studded with 12 hits to the fence and a six.
Good contributions from Sridip Mungela (31, 46 balls, 3x4), Gaurav Chavan (39, 54 balls, 4x4), Sarvesh Damle (48, 71 balls, 3x4, 1x6) and Sachin Vag (28, 2x4, 1x6) propelled Mumbai to a good total.
However, Hyderabad, paid dearly for not making first use of the wicket, and were shot out for 178 in 46 overs. Niklesh Reddy (27), Kushal Jilla (39) and Ashwin Yadav (38 not out, 29 balls, 6x4, 1x6) came good with the bat. For Mumbai Swapnil Kuley, Ratamesh Mahadik, Iqbal Abdullah and Davil Parab claimed two wickets each.
