Mumbai fails to force win over Karachi Urban in Nissar Trophy

Karachi, Sep 11 (UNI) Mumbai failed to force a victory over Karachi Urban with hosts' middle order Saeed Bin Nasir and Asim Kamal sharing an unfinished 90-run fifth wicket stand in their second innings after following on to escape for a draw on the last day of the four-day match for the Mohammad Nissar Trophy here today.

Nasir and Kamal remained defiant for 22 overs as the hosts ended the day on 172 for five after opener Khurram Manzoor showed them the way by hitting a double century in their first innings which ended just before lunch today.

Trailing by 234 runs after their first innings ended at 389 with Khurram the last man out at exact 200, Mumbai had visions of an unlikely win after the Karachi side were reduced to 24 for two in the 11th over in their second essay after Khurram and the other opener Agha Sabir returning to the hut cheaply.

But, the vistors did not have time to force a win and the hosts middle order batsmen remained defiant to save the match between the domestic champions of Pakistan and India.

Earlier, Mumbai had declared their innings at 623 for six after tea on second day and in reply Karachi Urban wielded the willow till just before lunch of the last day today, to score 389 all out with Khurram smashing exactly a double hundred from 427 balls with the help of 28 fours and two sixes.

For Mumbai, four batsmen -- S Kukreja (110), A Rahane (143), PT Naik (118), AM Nayar (152) -- had hit centuries.

Among the visiting bowlers, VS Yeligati was the most successful, returning four wickets from the match, while AM Salvi and I Abdulla scalping three apiece.
