Mumbai added another feather to thier cap
Jaipur, Mar 28 (UNI) Mumbai added another feather to thier cap as they beat hosts Rajasthan by 72 runs and won the Ranji Trophy Inter State One-day title at the SMS Stadium here tonight.
Mumbai had already won the national Ranji champion crown only last month.
Spinner Nilesh Kulkarni bowled deadly taking three for 50 to bandle out Rajasthan for 215 in 46.1 overs chasing a victory target of 288. Only Afroz Khan could resist Mumbai bowlers as he scored a fine half century (54, 67b 4x1, 6x1). He put on 60 runs for the sixth wicket with Kuldeep Singh who made 33 (57b, 4x4) runs.
This partnership was broken when Ramesh Powar dismissed Kuldeep caught by subtitute fielder Indulkar.
Afroz khan was involved in an another 32 runs stand with Pankaj Singh (23) before the former was caught by Indulkar off Usman Maulvi for 54.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma (31, 49b 5x4) and Anshu Jain 25 (24b, 4x4) had added 54 runs for the second wicket. Both of fell to Nilesh Kulkarni.
Rajasthan had entered the final for the first time. The home team had the distinction of reaching Ranji Trophy final for eighth time.
Besides Kulkarni, A Salvi, Usman Malvi and Ramesh Powar each took one wicket for Mumbai. Vinayak Mane was adjudged the man of the match.
Rajasthan Sports Minister Yunus Khan gave away the glittering trophy to Mumbai skipper Amol Mazumdar.
