Mourinho angered by Real Madrid reports

LONDON, Feb 4 (Reuters) Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho reacted angrily to media reports that he wants to take over as the next Real Madrid coach.

Reports in Spain on Friday said he was in talks to replace Fabio Capello at the Bernabeu at the end of the season.

Mourinho's long-term future with Chelsea has been questioned after tensions with club bosses over January transfer targets.

''I don't play this game. I respect Capello and Madrid and I have spoken with nobody,'' Mourinho told a news conference after his team cut the gap on Manchester United at the top of the Premier League to three points with a 1-0 win at Charlton Athletic, yesterday.

''A big club like Madrid don't deserve this type of game and I am certainly not playing it. If others do it, it is up to them. I play the game that I want.'' Mourinho also said captain John Terry was ready to start for England against Spain on Wednesday after being out since December following back surgery.

''John is ready to play. With 10 minutes to go I decided to defend the 1-0 lead that we had and put him into the game. But if I needed to play him for longer I would have,'' he said.

''Terry will play some part against Spain and will hopefully come back completely ready for the Middlesbrough game next weekend.'' ''I have open communication with Steve McClaren and we have spoken a lot. He knows John is ready to play, but they need to take extra care with him.

''He is not ready to play the 90 minutes because of the physical conditions, but if he starts I'm sure he will take him off later in the game.'' REUTERS SBA BST0444
