Mohun Bagan boss Anjan Mitra in controversy

Kolkata, Sep 16 (UNI) Mohun Bagan's general secretary Anjan Mitra was perhaps not aware of the proverbial Shakespeare's maxim ''What's In A Name'' when he suggested that East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting should change their nomenclature as they sound communal.

Since his outburst against these two clubs on Saturday, the day Mohun Bagan was officially declared winners of Sahara Kolkata Premier League, Mitra came under severe criticism from EB and Md Sporting and both demanded exemplary punishment against him.

Mohammedan Sporting Club's general secretary Sultan Ahmed today said Mitra's comment had denigrated patriotic Indians, who formed the clubs to fight the British monopoly in football in pre-Independence period.

Ahmed said Mitra's utterances not only brought insult to them but to the entire society in particular and football lovers in general.

He demanded a public apology from Mohun Bagan boss for casting aspersions on century old clubs - EB and Md Sporting.

EB also loged a protest with the AIFF to invoke code of conduct on Mitra for his ''irresponsible'' comment on the two clubs.
