Mohammedans hold Sporting club de Goa to a goaless draw
Margao, Mar 3 (UNI) Sporting Club de Goa today squandered scoring oportunites and had to be content with a goaless draw against Kolkata's Mohammedan Sporting and split points in the seventh round of the ONGC National Football league championship match at Nehru stadium Fatorda.
With this drawn match, Sporting increased their points tally to eight from seven outings while Mohemmadan took their tally to six from equal number of outings.
It was missed chances galore for both the teams, in which Mohammaedans had an edge in the first half which was restricted to midfield for the major part.
Mohammedans came with couple of good moves in the first half but on both the occasions, wood work denied them. In the 30th minute, Jatin Singh Bhist from the right flank gave a pass to Cristan Papai whose header crushed into the goal post and rebounded into play.
The visitors were again frustrated in the 34th minute when Papai header again hit the cross bar. This time it was cross pass given by Subhasish Roy Chowdery.
Not a single good move was witnessed from Sporting club de Goa in the first session.
After changeover, Sporting regrouped themselves well and could have shot into the lead in the 48th minute but forward Earnest Jeremiah who had only the rival goalkeepr to beat did not have a clear look at the goal and took a hasty shot which went wide. It was a pass from Joseph Pereira from the centre.
Sporting had another chance in the 78th minute when Harmanjyot Singh Khobra, after collecting a pass from substitute Rajesh Meteei, unleashed a full-blooded shot but it hit the cross bar and rebounded into the play.
Sporting club Goa's Medio Bishweshwar Singh was adjudged the man of the match.
