Mizoram plans to introduce professional courses in sports

Aizawl, Feb 25 (UNI) Mizoram Government is planning to introduce professional courses on different sports in its Sports Academy under Sarva Shikhya Abhiyan (SSA), as part of a sports promotion programme.

Speaking on the valedictory function on the first Sports Academy evaluation here yesterday, state Education Minister Dr Lalthangliana appreciated the achievements of the one-year-old SSA Sports Academy and informed that the education department is planning to make it a professional study centre.

''Besides, being good for health, sports has become a profession, so we are planning to make professional sportspersons here and the sport associations and the police department have been training pipe bands in the academy during past a year,'' he added.

As many as 764 sports persons from different parts of the state took part in the three-day event.
