MG University begins the campaign with a victory
Kottayam, Jan 20 (UNI) Host Mahatma Gandhi University trounced Kachch University, Gujarat 25-3, 25-5, 25-3 in the inaugural match of the All India Inter University South West Zone Women's Volleyball Championship here today.
In another match Anna University defeated Devi Ahaliya University 25-3, 25-6, 25-7 while Mangalore University outplayed Periyar University 25-13, 25-14, 25-3.
Sholapur University outwitted Bhavanagar University in straight sets 25-5, 25-5, 25-2.
Bangalore University winning the first two games, though lost the third and the fourth game, came back in the last game to outplay RSTM Nagpur University, 25-15, 25-8, 12-25, 19-25 and 25-3, and moved to second round.
Jai Narayan Vyas University moved to second round by beating J N Technical University, Hyderabad 26-24, 25-20 and 25-22.
In a thrilling encounter, Pondicherry University defeated Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences by straight sets 25-15, 25-14 and 27-25.
L N I P E Gwalior outplayed Maharaja Sajirao University, Baroda 25-5, 25-3, and 25-11.
Amravathi University motors to second round beating Bikaner University 25-17, 25-20 and 25-13.
State Education Minister M A Baby inaugurated the championship.
M G University Vice-Chancellor Jancy James presided over the function. The Minister released the tournament souvenir by handing over a copy to the Vice-Chancellor.
University Volleyball coaches Kalavoor G Gopinath and Prakash Mathew were honoured on the occasion. Cultural programmes and fireworks display were held as part of the inaugural function.
