Melukara snake boat wins Uthruttathy boat race

Pathanamthitta, Aug 30 (UNI) Melukara snake boat won the first place in 'A' batch in the Uthruttathy Snake-Boat Race held in river Pampa at Aranmula today.

Edasserimala finished second and Poovathoor-West came third.

In the 'B' batch, Kottathoor bagged the first place while Muthavazhi and Edappavoor stood second and third respectively.

The boat race was preceded by a pageantry of all the 39 participating snake-boats.

The majestic snake-boats rowed to the tunes of traditional 'Vanchippattu'.

The carnival was formally inaugurated by NSS General Secretary P K Narayana Panicker.

The boat race was flagged off by Water Resources Minister N K Premachandran.

T K A Nair, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister was the guest of honour.

Ramapurath Warrier Award instituted by Palliyoda Seva Sangham, which organises the annual event, was presented to Poet Kadammanitta Ramakrishnan by T K A Nair.
