Marquis sails into second round

Mumbai, May 14 (UNI) Third seed and local lad Christopher Marquis made his way into the second round in the under 16 age group of the Ramesh Desai Memorial Junior National tennis Tournament with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Saurabh Patil at the MSLTA's G A Ranade Tennis Complex today.

Marquis, one of the main contenders for the boys under sixteen title, marked his entry into the second round of the tournament in fine style. He took the first set with little trouble winning 6-2.

In the second set he steamrolled his opponent winning the set 6-1.

Another player, who had it easy on the courts, was top seed Ronak Manuja, some great tennis to thrash Sabaresh Haritharan of Andhra Pradesh 6-0, 6-1. Fifth seed Lakshit Sood was made to fight against Sai Karthik of Andhra Pradesh. Karthik rallied to send the first set into a tie breaker but Sood pulled of a close tie break win to take the first set. The second set required just a solitary break of serve for Sood to win it 6-3 and enter the second round.

Winner of the Bombay Gymkhana Tournament, Vaidik Munshaw continued his fine run with a straight sets victory over Srikar Alla. Munshaw had a seemingly easy first set but Alla pushed him all the way in the second but lost the set 7-5, handing Manshaw a place in the second round.
