Manpreet, Parmjeet win gold in 800m
Kila Raipur, Punjab, Feb 2 (UNI) Manpreet of Jalandhar and Paramjeet Singh of Goslan won the two-lap races in the girls Under-19 and boys Under-19 respectively in the Parle-G Kila Raipur Festival at the Grewal Stadium here today.
Manpreet clocked 2: 31.16 in the 800 m race for girls. In a photo-finish contest, Kiranjeet Kaur (Bhatinda) timed 2:31.51 for silver medal. Ramandeep Kaur (Sunam) finished third in 2:32.61.
Paramjeet Singh (Goslan) touched the finishing tape in 2:01.84 to take home gold in 800 m for boys under-19. He pushed Parwinder Singh (Khanna), who clocked 2:02.88 to second spot. Lakhwinder Singh (Patiala) was third in 2.03.33.
The Rural Olympic Games were formally inaugurated by Ajmer Singh Aulakh, playwriter and winner of Sahitya Academy Awards.
Dr Kuldip S Kular MPP, Parlimentary Assistant of Ontario, Ministry of Health and Long Term Care from Canada was the special guest of honour.
