Manpreet Kaur, Poovamma qualify for final in World Youth

New Delhi, July 13 (UNI) Inspired by Poovamma's performance in 400m, Manpreet Kaur heaved 4kg shot put to 13.56m to became the first Indian girl athlete in Field event to qualify for the final of the IAAF World Youth Championship at Ostrava in Czech Republic.

According to information received here today, Manpreet, tossed first throw to 12.96m,below her regular opening series but in the second attempt Manpreet threw 13.56m, sufficient to make it to the final.

Yesterday, M R Poovamma became the first Indian to enter in the final of Championship.

Poovamma clocked 55.15s. in the second semi-final of girls 400m run to reach into the finals.

In the quarter finals, Poovamma had finished third in the sixth heat with a timing of 55.37s,just outside her personal best.

However, Ajay Pal Singh failed to find place in the top 12 of Boys shot put. Ajay threw 16.83m and finished on the 18th place in Group-A.
