Manipur overtakes Sikkim in medal tally

Gangtok, Feb 26 (UNI) Manipur surpassed host Sikkim and topped the medal tally on the third day of the 21st North East Sports festival here today.

Manipur won two gold medals in athletics and dominated the archery event by grabbing five golds in the 50 mtr category.

Sikkim ranked second with six golds and Meghalaya took the third position collecting five golds.

In Athletics Assam dominated by capturing four gold medals.

While Assam's Pramila Vharali won two golds in shotput and discus throw Priya Devi won gold in 200 mtr race and Rajiv Tamuli collected the gold in Shotput.

In men's football played at Palzor stadium, Meghalaya defeated Arunachal Pradesh 3-1. Samuel and Romeo Sukhlein scored one goal each in the first half for Meghalaya. In the second half Neman scored the goal in the 73rd minute taking the score to 3-0. Keji scored the face saving goal for Arunachal Pradesh in the 90th minute.

In another match Nagaland defeated Tripura 2-0. Meren scored both the goals in 45 and 83 minutes.

In the women's football at TNA ground here today, Nagaland beat Meghalaya 3-2 and entered the semifinal.

Yesterday Manipur had defeated Mizoram 2-0. N Roma Devi scored both the goals for Manipur.The match between Sikkim and Nagaland ended in a goalless draw as neither team was able to score during the stipulated period.

In the third match Mizoram girls defeated Tripura 5-1. While Lalhmangaihi scored the first goal for Mizoram in the 17th minute.

The other goals were scored by Lalrinzami (23,57),F Zohaminglian(40), and Janet( 46).Dipti Santradhar scored the lone goal for Tripura in the 21st minute.

In women's Table Tennis final, Assam beat Tripura 3-1 for gold and Manipur beat Sikkim 3-1 to bag the bronze.

In men's Table Tennis final Assam beat Manipur 3-0 and Sikkim collected the bronze defeating Tripura 3-1.
