Manavjit Sandhu finishes 13th at World Cup in Slovenia

New Delhi, July 2 (UNI) World Champion Manavjit Singh Sandhu failed to qualify for the final round and finished 13th in men's trap event at the ISSF World Cup Slovenia.

He shot a score of 119 with a qualification series of 23, 25, 23, 24, 24.

Manavjit came back strongly with two near perfect rounds of 24 and 24 after shooting 71 in the day one qualification round of 75 targets but was not still good enough to make the cut for the finals which he missed by two points.

Another Indian, Mansher Singh who recently booked the Beijing Olympics berth at the World Cup held at Lonato last month, finished 26th with a score of 117 (23, 23, 24, 23, 24) while Zoravar Singh Sandhu scored 109 (22, 24, 22, 18, 23) to finish 83rd in a strong field of 110 shooters.

In the MQS section, the two Indians in the fray, Birendeep Sodhi shot 113 (20, 23, 23, 24, 23) while Anwer Sultan had a score of 110 (22, 22, 22, 20, 24), according to information received here today.

The gold in this event was won by Jesus Serrano of Spain with a score of 143 (122+21) while Burnett Derek of Ireland and Sinmazisik Mustafa of Turkey won the silver and bronze respectively.
