Maharashtra's Swati sets new meet record in diving

Panaji, June 21 (UNI) Maharashtra's Swati Vidap today set a new meet record claiming gold with 213.85 points in the girls Group 3 high board diving event on the opening day of the Sub Junior Aquatic Nationals diving championship held at the Sports Authority swimming pool here today.

Swati erased the existing record in the name of N Divya Theja of Karnataka with 199.20 points, established in 2006.

Maharashtra today claimed three medals -- two gold and a silver.

Besides Swati Vidap, the other gold was won by Hrutika Shriram with 314.05 points while Rupali Shinde with 269.75 points won the silver -- both in the girls Group 1 high board event.

Krishna Naik (Services) with 361.10 points and Safirtha Nanda (West Bengal) with 224.15 points also bagged gold medals in the boys Group 1 high borad and boys Group 3 high board events respectively.

In the boys Group 3 high board event, Abhisek Tiwari from Uttar Pradesh, who was first after the four dives, failed in the last two dives due to his own mistake but managed to finish third with 176.80 points. Vinayak Yadav (Haryana) with 184.15 points finished second.

Hosts Goa today had to content with two bronze medals -- Rahul Soman with 307.65 points and Susmitha Vast with 255.50 points.

Both finished third in the boys and girls Group 1 high board events respectively.

Following are the results (First three places): Boys Group 1 high board: 1. Krishna Naik (Serivices) 361.10 points, 2. Navin Kumar Pandey (UP) 308.80, 3. Rahul Sonam (Goa) 307.65.

Girls Group 1 high board: 1. Hrutika Shriram (Maharashtra) 314.05, 2. Rupali Shinde (Maharashtra) 269.75, 3. Susmitha Vasta (Goa) 255.50 points.

Boys Group 3 high board: 1. Safirtha Nanda (West Bengal) 224.15 points, 2. Vinay Yadav (Haryana) 184.15, 3. Abhisek Tiwari( UP) 176.80.

Girls Group 3 high board: 1. Swati Vidap (Maharashtra) 213.85 (NMR), 2. N Divya Theja (Karnataka) 192.20, 3. Radhika Apte (MP) 112.90 points.
