Maharashtra's Khade sets new record in Swimming
Guwahati, Feb 10 (UNI) Maharashtra swimmer Veerdhaval Khade set a national record in200 m freestyle as his state, Delhi and karnataka dominated the pool on the first day of the aquatics competitions in the 33rd National Games here today, Khade clocked 1.54.18 to clinch the gold inthe 200 m freestlyle, bettering his own national seniors' record of 1,57,17.
He also set a new mcet record by going past the 10-year-old previous National Games record of 1.58,68 set by J Abhijith of Karnataka.
Khade also won the gold in butterfly stroke with a timing of 0.57.99 minutes.
Richa Mishra of Delhi emerged the most successful women swimmer of the day winning both 200 m freestyle and 100 m butterfly events.
She clocked 2.1283 minutes in 200 m freestyle and 1.05.93 minutes in 100 m butterfly storke.
The men's team of Karnataka also set a new meet's record in the 4x100 freestyle relay.
In the 4x100 freestyle relay competitions for men and women, Karnataka notched both the golds, with the men's team setting a new meet record.
The men's team clocked 3.39,43 to clinch the gold, bettering athe previous meet record of 3.41.99 in the name of Kerala.
In the women's ca teg ory of 4 x 100 freestyle relay, Karnatka clocked 4.18.58 minute to win gold.
