Maharashtra shines with 10 gold, Kerala cliches Water Polo title
Panaji, Jan 11 (UNI) Maharashtra today clinched 10 golds, five each in swimming and diving with two meet records, while their arch rivals Karnataka claimed five gold with three meet records, all in swimming on the penultimate day of the 52nd National School Aquatic Championship here today.
While Gujarat and Tamil Nadu claimed two golds each, Goa, Bengal, Punjab, IPSC Kendriya Vidyalay were content with one gold each.
Kerala emerged champions in Water Polo by defeating Bengal 6-5 in the finals . For Kerala, V Nandu scored 4 goals and Shreejit R had 2 goals. As for Bengal, goals came through Rajan Ghose (2), Sarojit Samanta (2) and Alif Dhali (1).
Punjab finished third, defeating Manipur 11-8.
In all, six new meet records were set today.
Maharastra's both meet records were set by Lekha Kamat in 100m free style girls under-17 with a new timing of 01:02:00. The previous record was in the name of C Subha of Karnataka with a timing of 01:03:40 set in 2003 and second meet record was in 50m Butterfly girls under-17 with a new timing of 00:29:43. She improved her own record with a timing of 00:30:38.
Karnataka's three meet records were set by V Tejaswani in 200m breast stroke girls under-19 with a new timing of 02:50:34. She broke the previous record of her team mate Preema Jain whose timing was 02:56:85, Pooja Alva in 800m free style girls under-19 set the meet record with new timing of 10:07:96. The existing record was in the name of her team mate Tejaswini with a timing of 10:11:47.
The third meet record was by Aaron D'Souza in the 800m under-19 boys with a new timimg of 08:52:97. The previous record was in the name of his team mate Rohit Havaldar with a timing of 09:00:17.
Gopinath Kayal of Bengal set a new meet record in 50m butterfly boys under-14 with a new timing of 00:28:90. He improved his own record of 00:29:19.
