Maharashtra rules last day of swimming events
Guwahati, Feb 16 (UNI) Veerdhaval Khade and Lekha Kamath led Maharashtra's splash in the swimming pool, winning four Gold medals between them, on the last day of aquatic events in the 33rd National Games here today.
Karnataka had to contend with two Golds, while Delhi's Richa Mishra failed to add to her kitty of eight Golds.
The 100 mt backstroke for women brought host Asom the long awaited Gold in swimming. Fariha Zaman clocked 1.09.49 minute to cheers from the crowd.
The Silver went to Kerala's Sony Cyriac, with a timing of 1.11.30 minute, while the Bronze was notched by Delhi's Richa Mishra, clocking 1.11.80 minute.
In the 100 mt freestyle for women, the Gold was notched by Karnataka's Shikha Tandon, clocking 0.59.92 minute.
The Silver went to her state-mate Kshipra Mahajan, with a timing of 1.01.44 minute, while the Bronze was won by Lekha Kamath of Maharashtra, clocking 1.01.62 minute.
The Gold in the 10 mt breaststroke for women was clinched by Lekha Kamath of Maharashtra, clocking 1.21.59 minute.
The Silver medal was won by Richa, with a timing of 1.21.70 minute. The Bronze went to Karnataka's Shikha Tandon, clocking 1.23.59 minute.
In 50 mt butterfly for women, the Gold was again clinched by Lekha Kamath, clocking 0.29.65 minute to better the previous record of Richa Mishra of 0.30.07 minute set in 2002 National Games.
The Silver was notched by Shikha Tandon, clocking 0.30.71 minute, while Asom's Fariha Zaman won the Bronze, with a timing of 0.30.77 minute.
In men's 100 mt freestyle, Maharashtra's Veerdhaval Khade set a new meet record to clinch the Gold. He clocked 0.52.80 minute, sliching past the previous record of Sebastian Xavier of Kerala by 0.01.14 minute.
The Silver was notched by T A Sujith of the Services team, with a timing 0.54.67 minute. The Bronze was won by Karnataka's Aniketh D'Souza, clocking 0.55.28 minute.
The Gold in men's 10 mt breaststroke was won by Punnet Rana of Punjab, clocking 1.08.09 minute.
The silver went to Delhi's Sandeep Sejwal, with a timing of 1.09.06 minute, while the Bronze was notched by his state-mate Rohit Kumar, clocking 1.09.83 minute.
In 100 mt backstroke for men, the Gold medal was notched by Karnataka's Rehan Poncha, setting a new record meet by clocking 1.00.68 minute. He bettered T K Senthil Kumar's record of 1.01.54 minute, set in the 2002 National Games.
The Silver went to M B Balakrishnan of Tamil Nadu while Bronze was won by Karnataka's Sandeep N A.
The 50 mt butterfly stroke for men also saw a new meet record, with Maharashtra's Veerdhaval Khade clocking 0.26.03 minute to better Akbar Ali Mir's record by 0.00.41 minute.
The Silver was won by K Rajeev of Kerala, clocking 0.26.69 minute, while the Bronze went to Rehan Poncha, with a timing of 0.27.04 minute.
