MAAA meet in Kolhapur tomorrow
Pune, Feb 25 (UNI) The Maharashtra Amateur Athletic Association (MAAA) has convened a meeting at Kolhapur tomorrow to discuss ways to foster and encourage athletics.
The divisional meeting will be chaired by MAAA vice president R B Patil and will be attended by representatives from Satara, Sangli, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri and Kolhapur. The meeting will take stock of the strength and weakness in available talents, coaches and technical officials before the ensuing 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games. MAAA secretary general Pralhad Sawant said in a press release here today that the meeting will also elect various sub-committees for the Kolhapur Division which will be hosting the forthcoming state athletic championship.
The umpires and technical officials examination will also be held, it said. The MAAA is leaving no stone unturned to have the best coaches and technical officials to officiate in the 2008 CYG, Mr Sawant added.
The Athletic Federation of India (AFI) has asked the affiliated units to nominate coaches to train the athletes, both seniors and juniors, in the coaching camps to held for both the 2008 CYG and the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Mr Sawant said.
