LG Southern India Amateur Golf Championship begins tomorrow
Bangalore, June 18 (UNI) As many as 82 leading amateurs will vie for top honours at the LG Southern India Amateur Golf Championship, which commences at the par-70 Bangalore Golf Club here tomorrow.
The event, managed by Tiger Sports Marketing, forms the second leg of the LG Indian Amateur Golf Tour.
The LG Southern India Amateur would witness the likes of LG Eagleton Amateur champion Anirban Lahiri, three-time Sri Lankan Open winner Simarjeet Singh, Jasjeet Singh, Gagan Verma and Raj Randhawa among others.
Sri Lankan duo of Mithun Perera and All India Amateur champion K Prabagaran would add foreign flavour to the second event on the LG Indian Amateur Golf Tour, while Bangalore's Chikkarangappa and Jaipur's Amanjyot Singh may pose a serious threat to the seasoned amateurs.
Anirban, who clinched the National Amateur Golf Tour Order of Merit last season, would be the player to watch out for in this tournament. The 19-year-old lad came tied second last year and would go to great lengths to set the record straight at the LG Southern India Amateur.
Meanwhile, Simarjeet warmed up in style for tomorrow's championship, returning the best individual gross score by an Amateur at the LG Southern India Amateur Am-Am held at BGC today.
Simarjeet who carded a one under 69 today said, ''The course is in great condition. The rough is up and the greens are lightning fast.
B G Raj clinched the 0-24 handicap category with 35 points, while K R Prakash finished second with 34 stableford points on a better back nine score.
