Lawson apologises for row with media

Karachi, Jun 30 (UNI) Coach Geoff Lawson has apologised for a row with the media after Pakistan was defeated by Sri Lanka in their Asia Cup Super Four match here.

The Australian had said at the post-match news conference yesterday,''A couple of rules before we start: don't make statements, ask questions. If someone asks the question twice I won't answer it, and make your question sensible otherwise I won't answer it, okay.'' This had led to a heated exchange with some journalists, who accused him of trying to dictate to the media, and a walkout.

Lawson issued an apology today saying,''What happened was regrettable and I would like to apologise for the events that led to the incident.'' This was not the first time that Lawson has had a run in with the media. He began his stint as Pakistan coach on the wrong foot in July last year with a stormy press conference after his team was beaten by South Africa in a Test match at the National Stadium here.
