Lahiri wins LG Amateur title
Bangalore, June 22 (UNI) Nation's top amateur Anirban Lahiri made it two-in-a-row by winning the LG Southern India Amateur Golf Championship with a comfortable nine-stroke leeway over second placed Simarjeet Singh here today.
A sizzling final round of four under 66 powered Lahiri to finish the tournament at 10 under 270 and bag the second leg on the LG Indian Amateur Golf Tour.
Earlier this month he had won the first leg, LG Eagleton Amateur Golf Championship, played in the city in a similar fashion by leading the pack throughout.
Simarjeet who breathed down the neck of the leader yesterday bringing Anirban's lead to just two points, had a dissapointing final day at three over 73.
Ambala's Manav Das finished third at 280 after shooting a final round of 70, while Bangalore's Abhiskek Jha finished fourth at 284.
Jha shot a 76 today.
GAIL employee Jasjeet Singh carded a two over 72 to finish fifth at 285, while DGC's Saurabh Bahuguna was a further stroke behind in sixth place at 286 after shooting a 73.
Anirban fired birdies on the second, sixth, seventh and ninth and an eagle on the fourth. On the fourth, he hit a two iron to about 8 feet from the pin and holed a left to right putt.
A lone bogey on the eighth saw him make the turn at five under.
On the back nine, he bogeyed the 10th and double bogeyed the 12th but recovered well to fire birdies on the 14th and 15th.
''The conditions were tough but I putted well today,'' said the champion.
