Lahiri leads amateur brigade's assault on PGTI Q-School
Gurgaon, July 26 (UNI) India's amateur brigade led by Anirban Lahiri is getting ready to give the professionals a run for their money, as three of the most outstanding talents in Indian amateur golf occupied the top three spots at the midway stage of the PGTI Qualifying School at the Golden Greens Golf and Country Club.
Anirban Lahiri giving ample evidence of his state of readiness to move to the next stage of his golfing career as he added a superb four-under 68 and open up a three-shot lead at the top of the leaderboard after two rounds.
The 20-year-old Lahiri, was part of the Indian team which won the silver medal at Doha Asian Games, is now five-under 139 after 36 holes. He is three shots clear of two other hugely talented amateurs, Ranjit Singh (69) and Raj Randhawa (70), who shared the second place at two-under 142.
Interestingly, Raj Randhawa won the first Stage of Q-School and Ranjit won the second stage.
Feroze Ali, former Indian Open winner, an event on Malaysian domestic tour last month, added a second round 71 to his first round 74 and moved to fourth place.
The cut came at 17-over 161 and 81 players remain in the field as 40 cards will be available for the 2007-08 PGTI tour.
